We are coming to Croatia in September and are spending our first night on Hvar staying in Hvar town. As it is so much cheaper to come over as foot passengers we are leaving the car on the mainland so my question is are there regular buses to take us from Stari Grad to Hvar town?
Also we wish to visit Vrboska on Hvar Island on another day so we again would be going from Stari Grad, is there a bus service to and from there? Is there anywhere I can find a bus timetable on line and failing that would the tourist information centres have them? Thank you.

Buses meet all the big ferries and go to both Hvar Town and Jelsa (separate buses!)
When I stayed in Jelsa I hired bicycles and we cycled to Vrboska and then over to Stari Grad (this is the flattest bit of the island). However, I do remember that there was a timetable up of times from Jelsa to Hvar Town in the bus station as well as to other places so you should be able to find similar in Hvar Town, particularly connections to Stari Grad. Also, there may be boat trips from Hvar Town to other parts of the island.

Since you are leaving your car in Split, have you thought about taking the catamaran directly to Hvar town? That will save you a bus trip and it will also get you to Hvar town quicker. Looks like there are two a day--- one at 11:30 and another at 15:00. Maybe that will work for you?

But I would check again when arriving to Hvar , there must be a timetable on the bus station.
The problem is that the company Čazmatrans does not have a web site for the area of Hvar.Contacting them by phone is another story. Once I got the answer%26quot;I think that there should be a bus....%26quot;
If you go by bus to Jelsa I would suggest you to go to Vrboska on foot along the sea, there is a narrow road unfortunately allowed for cars, and get to the bus for return (to Hvar or Stari Grad) in Vrboska.
Please, note that the ferry in Stari Grad is out of the town , so you cannot get to the town by the bus for the ferry port.
