trogir a big disappointment

Hi we%26#39;ve just returned from two weeks in Croatia. The first week we spent in the idellic Peljesac Penninusla and the second week we were meant to spend in Trogir. We had booked an apartment in Ciovo and arrived there on a Friday. The apartment was beautiful over looking a bay. But we were so disappointed by the crowds of tourists, the penninsula had been so quiet, beautiful uncrowded beaches, we really got to know the locals etc. Trogir in contrast was so overcrowded that we left after a day and went back to our beautiful penninsula.

Trogir I felt was great if you are single and looking for bars and nightlife but for something a bit more off the beaten track it wasn%26#39;t for us. We travelled with our three yr old daughter and seh had a great time, but Trogir was so uncomfortable and not really as friendly as the other areas we%26#39;d been to.

I%26#39;m sorry to hear this. I wonder if the time of year had anything to do with it as the multiple times that I have been to Trogir I have never felt that it had a vibrant night-life, but I have never been in July or August? If you only want beach I wouldn%26#39;t necessarily recommend it in season; Peljesac is definitely much more cut off.

Its a shame you did not like Trogir. We spent 3 nights there last year and found it to be a beautiful town with a very laid back nightlife.

We stayed in the old town itself though which maybe different to Ciovo.

So sorry you had such a disappointing experience! I have never personally been there in high season (always go in Spring or Fall) and that probably has something to do with it. I am definitely not a night-life person and do not find it to be bar place. However, everyone has different experiences and it is discouraging that you found it disappointing. :(

Trogir is not a place I would stay longer than a few nights as there is so much to see and do in the rest of the country. The interior of Istria (the tiny hilltowns) is great to get away for peace and tranquility. It is definitely my favourite place in Croatia.

Would you consider returning to Croatia? Have you been to Plitvice Lakes? Wow - talk about stunning!

sorry you felt like this abour Trogir

We went there last year for 11 days and couldn%26#39;t fault it. our appartment was in ciovo also.

found the local restaurants excellent. went in to the main town afew nights and found that just as good. in fact so good we are returning again this year.

a couple of trips into split also very enjoyable.

Saying all that we haven%26#39;t been to any other part of Croatia

saying that we haven%26#39;t been to any other part of croatia

Every person has a write to say his own opinion.

But the title %26quot; Trogir a big disapointment %26quot; is not apropriate for Trogir Unesco town.

I must say that Trogir and Ciovo is the one of the most visited area in Dalmatia because of the beauty of beaches and historic heritage of Trogir Unesco.

Many celebrities coming there and they are know very well why: few days ago was Michael Schumacher and every summer there is Bernie Ecclestone and many others people from many countries Europe, America, Canada..... who likes this town and area.

Anywhere in the world if you are coming in the high season at the place which is very popular and marked like must see places you can%26#39;t except uncrowded beaches especialy the main beach in Okrug Gornji, empty streets, not to many people. That atmosfere you can find out season in autumn or winter.

Trogir is a great destination for all age groups.

Trogir was our FAVORITE place in Croatia!!!! We just returned from 3 weeks in Europe - 1 week in Croatia where we spent 2 days in Trogir. It truly was one of the highlights of our trip. We stayed in the old city at the VILLA ST. PETAR and would highly recommend this hotel!!!! Outstanding from location, charm factor, cleanliness and a staff that knows what hospitality and service mean!!! Trogir never felt over crowded to us. The old city was a visual masterpiece. It was also a great center point to visit other sites in Croatia. We went to Krka National Park which was also a highlight of our trip. While only the smaller version of Pletjvice Lakes it was still stunning. My husband, myself, and children (ages 11 %26amp; 14) all loved Trogir. We were also in the Peljesac Penninsula and found that beautiful. We however prefered the historical charm of Trogir. We would go back and recommend it to all.

There is a big difference sleeping in island of Čiovo or in the centre of Trogir.

It is true that there%26#39;s a lot of traffic in the island but the appartment owner should told you that before. July and August are high season and is expected to be a lot of tourists! Maybe for You Trogir was dissapointing but not for lots of other guests. Also this could be because You stayed in Trogir/Čiovo for only 1 day, obviously You haven%26#39;t visited old city core...
