Hello. My girlfriend and I have booked flights to Dubrovnik for 10 days in the middle of September. However we%26#39;ve both spent hours looking on lots of different websites and still very confused so any help would be really appreciated.
We would like to spend a couple of nights in Dubrovnik when we first arrive but on most accomodation websites it does not show their prices. We%26#39;re happy to stay outside the city walls and overlooking the city/harbour sounds lovely(walking up a few hills is fine). We have a budget of around 50 euros and would prefer an apartment/sobe to a big hotel
We%26#39;ve read that Dubrovnik can be very expensive so thinking we%26#39;d like to then go to one or more of the islands for say 6 nights in the middle of our holiday. We read an article about how these islands are the new St Tropez with all these cool bars...that%26#39;s not what we%26#39;re after! Would much prefer nice restaurants and picturesque scenery. Would anyone recommend staying on one island (perhaps Korluca?) or island hopping. We%26#39;d really like book our accomodation before we go
Any suggestions would be great, or if this has already been covered could you recommend the forum.
Thank you!
Dan

Dan,
As for rooms in Dubrovnik, there are alot of suggestions on different posts on thw Dubrovnik forum. Depending on what you are after.
My favorite island, which is quaint and quiet, but with spectacular scenery is Vis. A tad difficult to get to from Dubrovnik (you will have to get to Split first), but well worth it in my estimation. The reality is however, with some research all of the islands, even Hvar which is becoming very %26quot;hip%26quot; have out-of-the-way locales and hotels. The islands are fairly large and you can find a quiet spot on any of them.

We are doing very similiar trip by the sounds of it just before you - we picked teh DubrovnikBedandBreakfast (yes that is the full name!) for our couple of nights in Dubrovnik - booked online, followed up with phonecall (which was unnecessary); and then chose Lopud Island, La Villa B%26amp;B - very near Dubrovnik, quiet and pretty island, also has sandy beach and B%26amp;B looks gorgeous.

Hello Dan,
My husband and I are leaving for Croatia on 9/1 from Los Angeles and have the same questions. We are actually flying into Venice and plan to ferry to Split or directly to Hvar. We have many of the same questions as you. Have you received any helpful responses? A friend of a friend recommended Brac and Korcula, but we are wondering if these are day trips or should we plan a couple of nights there? If you%26#39;ve receive any recommendations on places to stay, we would love to hear from you! Many thanks!

Bol (on Brac) is a nice little town. It is also home to the most renowned beach in Croatia. Any of the resorts on the main strip are good choices (Elaphusa, Borak, Bretanide, etc).

Hello! Sounds like a few of us have a similar plan - I hopefully its a case of great minds think alike! My girlfriend and I have chosen to stay at Guesthouse Petrusic in Dubrovnik for the first three nights. Its reasonably priced and we don%26#39;t mind being a little walk from the old town as it means we%26#39;ll burn off enough calories to deserve a big dinner in the evening! It has good reviews but also not overly expensive as we%26#39;ll hopefully be out and about most of these first few days.
All of the islands seem to have their own charms but we%26#39;ve chosen Korcula and Mljet as our two destinations. In Korcula we have a few nights booked in Apartments Lenni. We found it quite difficult to find out which nights the Moreska sword dances are but read somewhere its thursdays and mondays so fingers crossed that info is correct!
We still have a few nights unbooked as we%26#39;d like to see Mljet and its national park but unsure whether to try and stay on the island, or just visit it on a day trip. If anyone has any advice we%26#39;d really appreciate it.
Finally, our last night is back in Dubrovnik at Villa Klaic. Have read that should get the bus at least one way as the trip is really beautiful. Like Lenni, Villa Klaic is probably slightly more than we originally planned to pay for accommodation but the photos look really nice and reviews are excellent so fingers crossed.
I found quite a few websites for accommodation don%26#39;t actually tell you the prices. If you%26#39;re looking for apartments and hostels (rather than hotels) I found www.hostelworld.com a really useful site. You can even pay a small cancellation charge in case you want to change your booking so if anyone knows the places we%26#39;re planning to stay in aren%26#39;t very good, please let us know!
I%26#39;m still a little bit clueless but hope this email is of a bit of help. I%26#39;ll put a post up when we%26#39;re back with any tips we learn while we%26#39;re there. Hope you all have a great time on your holiday!

Hi. I too am travelling with my girlfriend in September (4th to 20th) along Croatian Riviera incl Dubrovnik. We are flying into Venice then making our way to Zagreb (via overnight train then hiring a car from Zagreb and making our way to Dubrovnik).
I am Croatian (living in Australia) and have been to Dubrovnik three times before and have spent countless summers on Croatian Coastline.
My recommendations are as follows:
1) Accomodation - we will be staying at Villa Klaic (only because I stayed there last time I was there and found the people that own the place delightfull). It is not the cheapest accomodation (still reasonably priced) but its great value.
2) Other places around Dubrovnik - whilst staying in Dubrovnik we will spend a day taking the ferry to Lopud (great beach) and the other two days will be spent on Lokrum and local beaches.
3) Makarska - once we leave Dubrovnik we will go to Makarska and spend two days just hanging out on the beach, though we are also considering going to Korcula and Ston (peninsula between Dubrovnik and Makarska).
4) Hvar - the last three days will be spent on Hvar (Stari Grad) an amazing Island with great night life full of day and night time options of fun things to do. Note - you can catch a ferry from Makarska Riviera onto Hvar without going all the way to Split.
5) Brac - whilst we will not be going there I still highl recommend Brac and its famous %26quot;Mali Rt%26quot; beach. It is a wonderfull island and apperently the rock quaries on the island produced the stone that %26quot;the White House%26quot; was build from.

I just returned from a two week trip which combined ITaly and a few islands in Croatia. I would not recommend staying in one place for 6 days. Croatia has too many fabulous, separate islands to stay in one place that long. We spent 2 nights in Hvar, 3 nights in Korcula, and 2 nights in Dubrovnik.
Hvar: Absolutely amazing. It was paradise on earth. The beaches are fantastic and the restaurants and bars were amazing. The Pakleni islands, which are off of Hvar (20-30 Kuna for a water taxi) were so picturesque and beautiful. If you are into great, uncrowded beaches, swimming in crystal clear water set with the backdrop of hip beachside bars, this is the place to be. I don%26#39;t usually feel like I need to return somewhere immediately after I come home but Hvar was so amazing. It is absolutely a must see. I stayed at Ana Dujmovic%26#39;s apartments. 60 Euro - 2 minute walk to the beach and 10 minute walk to the center of town. Can book by email.
Korcula: I found it kind of cheesy and way overrun with tourists. Not as great as Hvar and actually more expensive. Still beautiful but not as great as Hvar and the fact that we payed way more made me mad. I stayed at Apartments Lenni. The apartments were clean and huge, but since they have been mentioned in Rick Steves, I think they raised their prices. Was 90 Euro a night - and we didn%26#39;t have that much hot water. Korcula is good enough for maybe 1-2 night stay if you have the time. But if you are picking between Hvar and Korcula - I would definitely recommend Hvar.
Dubrovnik: Everyone must see Dubrovnik. I stayed at Davorka Apartments. Absolutely amazing location in the walls (and no stairs!). 70 Euros a night which I think was a great price for Dubrovnik.
Brac: Didn%26#39;t go and regret it. If I could do over again would skip KOrcula and go to Brac instead.
Hope this helps.
