We are visting Croatia for 9 days in September. We are flying into Treviso airport and will arrive about 4pm. By the time we can pick a car up it will be 5pm earliest before we start to travel. How long does it take to get into northern Croatia, say Rijeka?
There is relatively little information on Krk and Cres islands on this forum. Last year we visited Dubrovnik, Hvar, Brac, Korcula, Plitvice and Split and found lots of info on here.
Would Krk town be a suitable base for say 7 days? We intend to have the last 2 days in Venice. Is it to get across to Cres Island for the day? Is there enough to do around Krk/Cres/the mainland for 7 days as we do not sit on beaches all day?
Thanks for any info.

I don%26#39;t know much about Cres island, but I did like the city of Baska on the island of Krk. That might be something you might want to look into.

We stayed on Krk last year and found it an excellent place to stay and explore, I agree with Barrymanilow Baska was excellent for scenery, walking, beaches and restaurants.
One more good thing about Krk is that is linked by a bridge so no worry about ferry timetables. We also liked Opatija and Lovran on the mainland.

You should be able to get from Treviso to Rujeka in around 3 hours,a bit longer at the weekend. We stayed near Baska on Krk 07 and had a lovely time, very scenic and easy to get to Cres and Rab by ferry.

krk offers plenty of wonderful sites. the city of krk, cave of bisreujka, nearby mineral mud beach, great eating places, vrbnik abovce the sea, glagolitic trails, baska, stara (old) baska, islet of kosljun nera punat. just go and you can visit thesurounding islands too.

Would back up all about the Krk.The rocky Cres (with flat Losinj) will offer you nice scenery too.Do not miss Beli %26amp; Lubenice. The rest is along the way.And it is handy to jump from Krk (Merag to Valbiska)
If there is a spare day check the ferry Baska - Lopar and see the island Rab too.
September is quiet for driving.Even on supermarket trolley you should hit Rijeka in 234 minutes or less.

Thanks for everyones replies and information.
We are picking a car up at Treviso about 5.30pm on Saturday evening. How far into Croatia would we get by say 7pm - assuming we are on the way to Krk?
As an alternative we are thinking of staying over at Lipica in Slovenia that evening. Maybe that would be about the 7pm mark?

Our itinerary now is that we are staying in Sezana in Slovenia ovrnight, this allows us to see the horses in Lipica if we wish.
Then we will travel down to the coast and get the ferry across to Prozina on Cres where we will stay for 6 nights.
We are still undecided whether to stay in Cres Town or Mali Losinj for the 6 nights. What would be recommended? We want to use the place as a base to have day trips to Krk and Rab.

I agree with other, you can stay in Baska or town Krk and take day trips to Cres or Rab. Cres town is a really, really great place, as well are Beli and Lubenice. Mali Losinj on island Losinj (connected with Cres by bridge) is also well worth visiting. It takes a little bit over an hour to get to Mali Losinj from Cres town.
While on Krk, don%26#39;t miss visiting Vrbnik.
From Krk%26#39;s ferry port Valbiska ferries operate to both Cres and Rab island. I think Baska-Lopar(Rab) line is cancelled.

Would anyone recommend staying at Mali Losinj for 6 nights? We are looking for any apartment with sea views that is within walking distance of Mali Losinj. Or is Krk town the better place to stay for 6 nights. If anyone has accommodation recommendations that would be great, We are not keen on the big hotels, prefer smaller places with sea views.
