Sailing holiday 1 week Croatia Spilt-Dubrovnik advice?

4 of us experienced sailors are planning a bare boat charter in Croatia end Aug/early Sept. Wd like quite to do 4-6 hours sailing a day then island anchorages, little restaurants, small uncroded anchorages/harbours in old villages. Any advice where best to start from (Kremik or Dubrovnik), whether its worth doing 1 way, places to visit, likely wind/weather conditions, good restaurants etc etc..

I have been on one sailing hol in Croatia and going on the 2nd one in one weeks time. We sailed out of Trogir ( just a little north of Split ) sailed around some ( not all as did not want a whistle-stop tour ) and returned to Trogir. We also went north to the Kornati Islands. Whilst nice to look at and visit I much preferred the inhabited islands out from Trogir and Split. This year we are doing a one-way charter from Dubrovnik and back to Split, with a view to visiting the islands we did not get to first time and revisiting some of those previously visited also.

I cannot remember the restaurant names etc but will take a note of them this time for future reference. Some of the islands are very quiet and laid back. Some are buzzy ( e.g. Hvar ). I liked this balance.

We found that the wind rose every afternoon around 4pm and lasted til about 7 - 8pm which meant we usually sailed for those hours and either dropped anchor or went to a marina or harbour wall for the night. The timing of this wind was fantastic, I think. Out on the islands you will not find any crowded anchorages except for Hvar. However, I have to admit we sailed in June which may have been considerably quieter than August.

If you wish I will get back to you after June 14th with more up to date info.

Thanks. Pse do let us know your favourite anchorages %26amp; restaurants/bars etc, after yr next trip. Any idea what is the prevailing wind direction end Aug?

For first timers, the islands of Brac, Hvar, Vis and mybe Korcula or lastovo are must. There is plenty of lively little towns and tons of quiet, secluded inlets. Your timing is good but there will be crowds since September is becoming even more popular than August! Italians are everywhere in August. Also, beware of NEVERA, strong storms coming from the west. Once you notice dark clouds approaching look for safe anchorage in the inlets or marinas turned away from the storm front.
