We have 11 days in July 09 and were thinking of 3 nights in Dubrovnik then 3 nights in Split and perhaps catching a ferry to Brac or Hvar for 5 nights relaxing on the beach. We dont like to move around alot and was wondering if it would be better to have the 6 nights in one spot and then 5 nights on an island and if so where?? Any suggestions would be appreciated, thank you.

You really do plan ahead Shelley!
Itinerary sounds good. Dubrovnik is a must for 1st timer. From there you may take a ferry to an island. Relax on the beach. Then ferry again to Split. There is a lot to see around Split - Trogir, Krka, Sibenik and Primosten. Split is often crowded. If you like to relax more, why not find a town near Split and do some day trips. I would suggest sparing more days for this part.

I would say limit your time to maybe four days in Dubrovnik and the rest on one of the islands--- Bol on Brac, Hvar, Korcula. I wouldn%26#39;t spend 3 nights in Split, one would be enough in my opinion.

I agree with the previous posters. If you do want to stay in Split for awhile, I would recommend one of the towns nearby (I would highly recommend Trogir). Split is really a day trip city. I think spending time ont he islands is great as well. I would research the islands near Split (the ones that Barry suggested) and find out which one fits what you are looking for. Ask if you need any more advice on particulars. Good luck!

Thanks everybody, I will do a bit of research and I will no doubt have some more questions for you.

If looking for authentic feel, STAY in Split! Choose either Vestibul Palace or Peristil hotel. Expect crowds, of course. if renting a car or doing private tours (or group) - visit island of Brac, Krka National Park with Šibenik or even head to Zadar (2 hour drive).
But three nights in Split while exploring area are simply a must do!

Dear Shelley
Your itinerary looks good, but 3 nights in Split is a rather long time. I would recommend 3 nights Dubrovnik, 2 nights Split, then the rest on Brac or Hvar (or both).
Bear in mind that Dubrovnik and Hvar can be very expensive in terms of eating out.
Have fun on your trip.

I agree with kiwigirl referring to the high prices in Du and Hv, a good solution is to stay( and eat) in other littler towns near each of them, and visit Dubrovnik and Hvar on a daytrip.
