driving to PlitviceLakes from Opatjia

Has anyone driven this route? How long does it take and if you rented a car, how much did it cost? Is it possible to do it in 1 day?

Doable in 2 usual ways.

Coastal road via Senj to Otocac-Korenica may be more eye pleasant but it takes more than 3hrs to get there. And you can dodge paying highway toll.

Longer in miles but faster in minutes would be the highway...Direction Zagreb and at via Bosiljevo knot - down to Otocac.Right after Rijeka you can floor it.

Costs are irrelevant because it is worth it.(Spend now - starve later.)

2 is better but 1 day is ok if you get there at 0645.

I highly recommend sticking to the toll roads, which are faster and still quite beautiful. The tolls were pretty negligible when we were on it.

Unfortunately, when I did this drive a few weeks ago, we missed the turn south from the toll road. Since we had a GPS, we took an alternative route proposed by the navigator. Big mistake. We wound up on a one-lane dirt track that ran through a forest. At times, we had a gorge on the right side of the road and signs warning us about mines on the left. It was an adventure, but not necessarily one that I would care to repeat.

When we left Plitvice to go to the toll road using the roads we should have taken, it was quite easy and the roads were well maintained.
