islands of croatia

OK, think I am getting an idea of where to go. Hoping to have 2 weeks now instead of 10 days so thought 4 nights in Dubrovnik then drive to a town near Split (????) then have say a week on an island, not sure which one though. There will be 6 of us (3 couples) all in our 50%26#39;s, love nice restaurants, clean beaches but dont like high rise any ideas of which island is for us or should we do two??

My favorite is Korcula. The old part of town is very compact and picturseque and there are frequent ferries to the main land.

Another island that was a complte surprise to me was Mjlet. Parts of it are a National Park, great for walking, swimming and taking the boat to the island monastery. On the cruise I was on last June (M/S Monet)over half of the 50 or so passenegers were from your country, and most loved Mjlet. However, if you want %26quot;action%26quot; that is not the place. The whole island has only one resort hotel.

Trogir is probably the town you are thinking of near Split. It is very pretty and a UNESCO world heritage site. Packed with character - much nicer place to stay than Split in my opinion.

My favourite island is Mljet (there are a few beautiful B%26amp;Bs - I personally hate resorts) as it is quiet and pretty. A nice place if what you want to do is relax. Others are Vis and Cres. Hvar and Korcula are gorgeous but can be a bit resort-ish and crowded for my taste (especially Korcula). Hvar Island has more to offer than just the town so would make a great base. Both have great restaurants, too.

Vis or Mljet are perfect for you. If you are looking for something rarely visited but of very authentic feeling - Lastovo island may be the spot

thanks you so much everybody, i will do some more research and will no doubt have some more questions down the track.
