Makarska Review

Just got back!

Had a great time. We stayed at the Hotel Meteor - separate review posted for that - and found it to be well located and of a decent quality. Weather was superb for all of the two weeks.

What can I pass on - don%26#39;t waste money on an orgnaised trip to Split. Get the local bus. They are very regular from Makarska bus station to the marina at Split and it is a fraction of the cost. Do go to Dubrovnik - we went on an organised excursion and it took three hours by bus each way. The service bus takes longer and to try to do the return trip on the same day that way is not recommended. Whatever you do, go to Mostar in Bosnia on the excursion. It is a fabulous place and yet so sad when you see some of the devastation still to be put right. It is a more emotive trip than Dubrovnik and it is well worth the visit. Eating out - we ate at the Lido restaurant which is about 20 yards away from the beachside entrance to the Hotel Meteor (it is part of the hotel we now know). The food is top quality, a good choice and always piping hot. Service is excellent. Further up, we also had a good meal at the Ankora and the Bistro Di Golfo. In town we had a couple of good meals that the Pizzeria/Spaggeteria Central - they also have a %26quot;B%26quot; team that are not so good though. Avoid at all costs the Mornar in town by the Marina. The food was only warm and thrown onto the plate and then on to the table. A group of 6 people next to us just left their food and paid and went out. The service was like something out of Fawlty Towers and di have a comic value. We also had a poor meal at the Bar Plaza (I think). A large bar at the end of the main beach just before you set off around teh healdland where the light house is. You will know it if you go there. The food was stone cold and not much better after we complained and they wamred it up!! All in all, a good place to vsist if you are looking to relax, or aslo if you are looking for some nightlife because there are a number of bars and clubs in town and there is a good atmosphere about the place. Food is not that expensive and neither is the beer.

Hi Jurney Man,

Thanks for the information. We too are going to be staying in Makarska. You mentioned you took an organized tour to Dubrovnik. Where did you book the trip? Did you go up and back in the same day or did you spend the night in Dubrovnik. Thanks

Hello,

to go to Dubrovnik take a trip with agency Atlas. You can book it directly at agency - it is based on Riva (ask for it) or with any travel agency representative, during their meetings with guests near the reception of the hotel. Excursion starting around 8am and you will be back by 8pm.

P.S. I was representative of one foreign agency and know that all our clients was satisfied. Do not know what is the price this year.

We booked with Atlas via our holiday company. Timimgs roughly as above but depending on where you are staying, you might be up a bit earlier as the coaches do hotel pick ups in Makarska and neighbouring resorts. The trip takes about 3 hours each way(there is a stop built in) and you get about 3 hours in Dubrovnik. It costs just below £50 per person. the previous poster spoke highly of the tour company and is right to do so. They are very good at what they do. Have a nice time
