Restaurants again!

Please, can anyone who has eaten in the Dubrovnik area recently recommend some nice restaurants for us to try.

We are there for a week soon and have no idea of where to go.

There are very few reviews on this site, so please let us know.

we like simple, fresh, well cooked food but are willing to pay a little extra for something special.

we have a hire car, so can drive out of the city too.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Thank you.

Have any of you out there been to any of these restuarants?

The reviews for the Nautika have put me off; it seems far to expensive for the quality - am I wrong?

|||

Well if you ignore the advertising in the above post for a certain excursion company who spams this forum frequently there are a few nice places listed but probably less than you would find in a good guidebook.

The drive up to Mali Ston is worth it for the seafood. There are three or four restaurants there and all are pretty good. The Kapetanova Kuca is my favourite but probably the most expensive.

Forget Nautica and Proto in Dubrovnik, as they are expensive and over rated. Some of the best restaurants are the little family run businesses away from the old city. Even little bars such as the Porat in Gruz do decent food at a reasonable price.

Out on the islands try Kod Marko and Konoba Tauris on Sipan. Kod Marko is quality and Tauris is value for money - take you pick.

To the south try Konavoski Komin which is up in the hills above Catat in a hamlet called Velji Do.

If you fancy a trip a bit further afield there are some nice restaurants over the border in Montenegro.

Thank you Balken Addict.

we were thinking of going to Konavoski Komin, so I am pleased that you mentioned it.

I think a day trip into Montenegro is on the cards so any recommendations there, also welcome.

anyone been to:

Dundo Maroje

Levanant

Anfora? (Pile)

or Rozarij?

Hi Anfora is my favorite restaurant, Konavoski dvori are quite expencive but you have jakanovi dvori.

kapetanova kuca is probably the best restaurant in the region.

Thank you, could you tell me how to find Anfora?

Dear juliad

Dubrovnik old town has all the places you need.

Kamenica Opposite cathedral

Arsenal at old port Ploce Gate

Lokanda Peskarya

Orhan next to expensive Nautica which has a cheaper lunch menu but has a very nice view of a smaller port.

Lanterna at Lapad considered best place in Dubrovnik but our favourite BY FAR is.....

DUNDO MAROJE the head waiter is so helpful and will reccommend reasonable wines. This place is to the left of Sponza Palace up a side alley.

Most places you will get similar dishes ie fish risotto or seafood spaghetti but it is all fresh fish! we were there May 18 to may 25 and we loved it all!

Thank you so much Vhlaho

It%26#39;s so good to have some recommendations from someone who has just visted.

we were already looking at Orphan, Lodanda, Levanant and also considering Dundo Maroje so that has helped us decide.

I haven%26#39;t heard any mention of Arsenal before but will certainly have a look at it.

I am so excited about visiting now, that I can hardly sleep :)

Do you have any other tips/recommendations?

We are hiring a car and plan to do Mostar/ Kotor etc, maybe get the boat to Lokrum but leave plenty of time for just chilling or exploring.

Are there some nice wines to buy in the supermarkets?

we have a beautiful terrace and i can see us sitting there with a glass of something and just taking in the view.

Dear Juliad

you will have a wonderful time in Dubrovnik

Go to Cavtat pronounced savtat it is only 12 kunas by bus by the fire station number 12 pay on bus or get boat from old port 80 kunas return walk round the gorgeous headland and eat at Ferale restaurant the waiter will take photos of you both?

Its like the south of France in the 50%26#39;s

We got bus there and boat back 50 kunas for one journey.A beautiful town on 2 bays

Beware coach trips unless you use a good company like Elite If hiring a car fine but you wont get info Korcula island is a great trip and the scenery is stunning.

You%26#39;ll have lots of chances of ferries as summer starts in June

Cheapest car hire firm is Milemnium 150 euros for 4 days but they use Kunas French people told us rate

Watch sunset in Sunset Lounge at our hotel Dubrovnik Palace but only drink a cocktail £6 or liqueur/ wine costs a fortune and not worth it Food too expensive at Palace Hotel dont do it and coke or fanta is 22kunas £2.50 The sunsets are free and breathtaking!

Tell them they should have piano earlier at 8 say!

Wine costs a fortune everywhere even in supermarket. Best buy a big bottle of Prosek which is great with ice and nice for apperitifs etc etc.. Thwy have a high taxation on wine even tho they grow vines everywhwere!

Havw a ball you will love it!

|||

Thank you so much for that Vhlaho.

All very helpful.

we were planning on going to Cavtat and now we know where to eat

The tip for the Sunset bar is a good one too.

Now I just hope it stops raining!
