Split, Makarska or Trogir

We are visiting Croatia in September and are not sure what is best between Split, Makarska or Trogir. We have been given various recommendations. We ae also visiting Dubrovnik,Splivice Lakes and Zagreb and only have time for one of these aprrox 4 days. Can anyone advise please.

Makarska is where the longest beach on the Adriatic is and does externally give the visage to me of perhaps a Pommy hangout. Do not get me wrong it is visually attractive but seems %26#39;Resorty%26#39; so to speak.

If you pick Trogir it is a Heritage UNESCO protected pert village ,quiet, foody, not to badly priced and only 20 mins or so from Split so you can spend a day checking the Diocletian and other sites and melt back into..... Split is a good days stopping but not first choice from your list.

can send trip reports oz-style on Dubrov and trogir if you click onto my sign in and send a message with your email address.

Do Drogir. And see if you can squeeze a day for Krka National Park.

We went to all three as part of our honeymoon in June. Split, specifically Diocletian%26#39;s Palace, is a half-day to day trip. I would recommend staying in either Makarska or Trogir. We stayed in Trogir and found it to be wonderful. It is a quiet, quaint, walled town with good food, nice views, and just an %26quot;old-world%26quot; kind of feel. Plus, as mentioned, it is an easy jumping off pint to other places such as Split, Krka, and some of the islands (we did Vis from Trogir via Split of course). We visited Makarska and found it to be a nice location as well with beautiful natural scenery. I guess you have to decide what else you will be doing in Croatia. If you will be visiting other beach areas, than I would definately advise Trogir, as it is a unique destination not easily replicated elsewhere in Croatia or the world for that matter.

AS you have only 4 days for Croatia, you should skip islands, too much time to spend on the ferries.

I will give a vote for Trogir.

We were just in Croatia in june and visited both Split and Trogir (as well as Dubrovnik, and Vis). We flew into Split and really only had 1 night and 3/4 of a day there. We stayed at Hotel Perstil which was very nice and right in the walls of the castle, definitely recommend staying there if you are only going to have one night. We all commented that we would have been happy with another night there to see/do more.

We spent 3 nights in Trogir in private villas within walking distance of the walled city. Trogir is very pretty and the walled city is very cool. The alley ways are the narrowest we were in. Great Gelato shop there too :) We visited Krka national park from there. Personally I could have cut at least one night out of this location. But that could be because we had just spent 5 nights on Vis and wished we would have spent an extra night there.

Markasa looks beautiful and we commented on the drive from Trogir to Dubrovnik that maybe next time we%26#39;d spend some time there. But it does seem more resorty..can see all the water sports going on definitely a %26quot;beach%26quot; destination.

I agree with the previous poster. Figure out what you most want to see. If you are coming from Dubrovnik, Trogir is somewhat similar, with Durbovnik being the star.

Split is very close to Trogir and it would be very easy to stay at one and do both. Guess I%26#39;m probably not helping much...
