Dubrovnik from cruise ship

Hello, I will be stopping at Dubrovnik on a cruise in September and I will have my 86 year old mother with me, who walks very slowly with a walking stick. I am hoping she will be able to see some of the old town, then I can leave her sitting in a cafe and go off on my own for a bit, get some nice pics as I%26#39;m a keen photographer.

Can someone who knows the town perhaps make any suggestions as to where we should head for, don%26#39;t want to waste too much time wandering round aimlessly and perhaps miss out on something good! Would be very grateful for any suggestions.

Thanks.

For great photos you will have to get up on the walls. Another place for a great view is Lovrijenac Fortress.

you may want to hire a driver and a car to take you to two great panorama spots before you head to Old Town!

I will be visiting Dubrovnik from a cruise ship also in September. Can any one recommend a car/driver to get us to the Old Town. How far is it from the port? What should be the typical cost for taxi? Thanks!

Depends where your cruise ship docks/anchors. Ours (M/S Monet) docked in the new harbor and we took a tour bus to the Pile gate to the old town, about 20 minutes. Latyer I took a public bus round trip. There are also taxis. They could also take you a bit up the the road toward Montenegro, where you have nice views of the old town. Unfortunately, the cable car which gave you a fabolous view of the city was destroyed during the Serbian siege.

If your cruise ship is really big, it will anchor outside of the old town, and tenders will take you directly to the old town habor.

I%26#39;m fairly old, and -after walking part of the old town wall - enjoyed just sitting in one of the reatautrants along the main drag and watch the world go by.

Walking the old town wall was hard on the knees, 720 steps up and down if you do the whole thing. If you climb the stairs near the harbor and go counter clockwqise, you have many good photo ops, even if you do only half the wall.

more than likely you will dock in the Gruz area of Dubrovnik - there are buses then that will take you right into the Pile Gate of the old town - get your ticket at the kiosks along the harbour in Gruz. Alternatively you might want to take a cab - the journey by bus would be about 15 minutes with stops, or by cab about 7 minutes. if you do take a cab, right before you get to the old town, you will go up a hill - at the crest of this hill is the most amazing view of the sea - you might want to grab that photo.

The bus / taxi will drop you at Pile Gate - just cross the bridge into the old town and walk around - go down to the harbour and you can leave your mother there and maybe head up onto the old town walls yourself and get some great photos.

The Old Town itself is quite small and it has those shiny tiles on the ground so it could be easy enough walking for your mother. There is plenty of shade in there two

My suggestion if you do stop in Gruz would be to get a cab with your mother. The buses can get pretty packed and hot.
