Family of 4 travelling next summer:
Any reason to choose late June vs. early to mid-July?
We want to go to the Dalmatian coast and see islands / beaches - where should we go? What city should we fly in and out of - Split? Dubrovnik?
Is there a way to rent a mini-RV? My thought is we would camp in it half the time and stay in hotels half the time - but can you get one that would work on the ferries?
Other advice?
Thanks...

Late June might be a little less busy than mid to late July. Not sure about the mini rv thing- I would just get a car and stay in sobes and maybe a hotel or two. Maybe you could look into flying into Dubrovnik and out of Split, therefore hitting Dubrovnik and the islands you want to see in between.

Besides, large vehicles pay much more for the ferries. You are allowed to sleep in legal camping places only and you have to pay for it. Otherwise, you are taking the risk of paying fine, many do so.
It would be better to fly into one town and fly out from the other in order to get more time, not having to returm back to the start point-but your final decision will be brought on the basis of tickett prices I suppose.

July would be more crowded but if you are into swimming you might prefer July over June. Cities to travel to/from -- depends on how long you%26#39;ll be there. I%26#39;d start with Dubrovnik area and if you have more than a week you could add a second area like Zadar....
RV%26#39;ing vs. island hopping vs. no-car islands vs. hotels is a whole different story...

we flew in to Split and out of Dubrovnik. You could also og the other way. But it allows you to visit some great places as you make your way downt the coast. I would try to avoid having to go back to the same city to fly home as you will be wasting time. But it certainly can be done.
As I understand it July is much more crowded than June, as alot of the Europeans are taking family vacations. We were there in early June and everywhere we went seemed to be on the light side. However, you also mentioned the desire to swim. We found it a tad cold low-70s for swimming in early June. So you may have to compromise one way or the other.

Tmacev, we swim in Jun, especialy in the south Adriatic, If somebody wants the sea to be very warm, there are sandy beaches with shallow sea.

If you can%26#39;t go into one and out of the other choose Split because you can see a bit of the north first such as the national parks. No idea re an RV, but I would recommend trying to book some of your accommodation in advance particularly in July. However, I would choose June; I swim in the Adriatic in May and there are lots of children swimming too and June will be less busy. If you do come in and leave from Split, then consider getting the big ferry back up from Dubrovnik. It sounds as though you will have some kind of vehicle and you could hand your car back in Dubrovnik and go back up the coast on the boat, getting to see Korcula and Hvar on the way.
