Best way to get around

I am planning a trip for 2009 from Rijeka to Dubrovnik and need some suggestions on the best way to get there. I would like to see as much of the coast as possible and have some stops along the way. I have looked at the ferry options and it seems that they go mostly at night - and miss the scenery? I would really like to hear from anyone who has done a similar trip. Thanks

Rent a car would be the best option because it gives you all the freedom in the world! If driving is an option..

What are the roads like? We have driven in Europe before but it is the other side of the road for us and if the roads are narrow and winding it is a bit scary!

I would recommend bus then, but if you%26#39;re going during the peak season, than it%26#39;s not that comfortable

we did a combo of ferries and the bus. The bus can be long, so I would recommend driving, although we were not brave enough. Do you need to go directly from Rijeka to Dubrovnik or are you wandering down the coast, so to speak. IF you are wandering down the coast, I would recommend ferries to some of the different locales and spend time in each place. For example, Rijeka to Split. Split to Hvar. Hvar to Korcula. Korcula to Dubrovnik. You will get to see everything you could possibly want. But if you are looking into a direct trip, then yes, the ferries would probably be at night.

Thanks for these tips. Yes we are planning the wandering option, maybe stopping for two or three days and moving on. We are looking at going Sept/Oct 2009 which seems like a long way off but we travel independently so it usually takes a while to make plans and gather info.

then I think you have options. Some people on here still recommend renting a car, although as I said, I was not excited about that. If you are going to spend a few nights in several places, I would definately sugest looking at several of the Dalmatian islands. Getting to and from them by ferries is simple. If you need to travel on the mainland, you wont be travelling too far is you are stopping at different places, so thebus would be easy enough. There are many threads with possible itineraries. I would be happy to share with you my thoughts, as I am sure would any number of people on here. Good luck.
