Rovinj or Porec...?

My husband and I are hoping to go to one or other of Rovinj or Porec for a week mid-June 2009 (yes, we plan well in advance!) Does anyone have any tips as to which is a better base? We particularly hope to get (eg) a bus to go to Pula, but we also would like to spend time in our %26quot;home%26quot; town as well as at a nice hotel (there seem to be a few to choose from in both places). Is either place quieter/more picturesque/larger/more historical etc etc? Other forum members%26#39; opinions and suggestions gratefully received!

Here is the link to the previous posts discussing the same dilemma:

Sorry, cannot send the link -the post is not accepted-I get the answer that the word is too long.

Just simply enter %26quot;Rovinj or Porec%26quot;in %26quot;Search the forums%26quot;

Seems that most of them preferred Rovinj.

Rovinj - absolutely no contest. Very pretty but can be very crowded (as many other places). Pula is a pretty interesting half day/day trip.

Agree with Chef - Rovinj, no contest. Rovinj is a jewel but during the summer months will be very crowded (a victim of it%26#39;s own beauty) but that would also be the same for Porec and the other coastal towns.

Thank you all for your views and sorry, I missed the earlier discussions which I will also check out!

porec and rovinj are just 10km apart , so it doesn%26#39;t really matter where you stay as long as you are happy with your accommodation .

both are villages , pula though which is also close by - 40km - is a historical roman city . half day is certanly not enough , at least the whole day is needed to visit the amphiteater , the city centrum , one of the beaches ( verudella or kamenjak ) and to have a nice meal at either valsabbion or kantina .

I am going to Porec in 2 weeks time to stay

at the Hotel Fortuna Island. I was last in

Porec in 2001 and stayed at the Hotel Mediterrean. We had a fantastic time in 2001. The people were

very friendly, the hotel was excellent and Porec

was so picturesque. Cannot wait to go back soon!

If you have not already booked, ROVINJ!!! We just came back yesterday and had a visit to Porec for the boat to venice and were un-impressed compared to beautiful Rovinj. Also the two are not 10 km away, more like 35 km. It is 45 minutes to Porec from Rovinj, hope you enjoy it!

We have just had two weeks in Croatia, staying at Hotel Laguna Albatros Zelena Laguna Resort, a fantastic holiday. Where ever you stay you shouldn%26#39;t be dissapointed.

Our holiday blog is COMING SOON on the 2 WEEKS IN POREC page.

be careful where you go at this time of year as alot of hotels are now in their last weeks of the season and are due to close for winter.

Well - we%26#39;ve made the decision: a week in Rovinj at the Hotel Park (and paying extra for the sea view) in June next year. Many thanks to all for their advice and we are really looking forward to visiting Croatia - it looks so beautiful.
