My wife and I recently returned from a 2 week honeymoom in Croatia (2nd 2 weeks of August) and thought I%26#39;d share my views of where we went.
We started off in Split for one night and stayed at the Hotel Vestibul. What a great location, right in the heart of Diocletians Palace. The hotel was wonderful with extremely helpful/friendly staff and the food was to die for, a very special way to start the holiday.
Split itself was very busy but not overwhelming. There was plenty of evening entertainment on the streets and in the Palace itself the atmosphere was wonderful
From Split we took the early morning ferry to Korcula. We stayed in the lovely apartment Pecotic about a 5 mins walk from the town centre. Right across the way was a lovely spot for swimming which noone had found. Korcula itself was very busy and we had some trouble getting into the restaurants we wanted. However, on the 2nd day we realised that we could pre-book a table for the evening, something I strongly recommend.
In Korcula we booked ourselves onto the Buggy safari. This was great fun, but I strongly recommend that if you do sign up for this, make sure that you keep your valuables with you at all times, we stopped somewhere and our guide said we could leave our bags in the buggies as there was noone around. Rather naively I left my rucksack in the buggy and an hour later noticed my wallet was missing.
Antother word of advice, if you are planning on watching the Moreska sword dance, I%26#39;d recommend you buy your tickets in advance and get there early. We were told we could get our tickets on the evening, but when we arrived 25 mins before the show started there was a huge scrum to get into the venue, and that was for people with tickets! From what we could tell, not everyone with tickets got in.
From Korcula we headed to the Pakleni islands, just across from Hvar town. We had a week booked at the Meneghello resort on Palmizana. While not a resort in the purest sense (thank god) this was like a tiny bit of paradise away from the hustle and bustle of the towns we had previously visited. We stayed in the yellow bungalow and couldn%26#39;t have asked for a nice spot.
When on Palmizan we would recommend ignoring the main beach in front of the resort, and instead, get your rucksack on and hike along the central path over the top of the island. From this path there are more paths down to some of the nicest little bays we%26#39;ve ever experienced. These bays are only accessible by the path or on boat so we were quite often on our own for the day. You can also hire a put put boat to get around the island, again, this is great fun and it%26#39;s so easy to find a spot with not a single person in sight.
The food at Meneghello was superb, either at the main resaurant or at Toto%26#39;s, a great little restaurant overlooking the bay. The seafish was superb, as it was in most of Croatia, but the steak at the Meneghello restaurant was probably the best steak I%26#39;ve ever tried.
The last 2 nights we spent at the hotel Concordia in Trogir. This was a lovely hotel, right on the promenade overlooking the sea. The staff were excellent and very friendly, the room spotless and the location superb.
Trogir itself was a great place to wind the holiday up. Plenty of night time entertainment and some great restaurants. The old part of the town was beautiful and we spent 2 days walking around, loving the small streets and wonderful art shops.
All in all I%26#39;d highly recommend Croatia for any kind of holiday, either romantic, nightlife, or boating, it really does have something for everyone.
And yes, the stories you hear about how clear the water is are most definitely true!

nice review! What about Dubrovnik?

Hi there, we never actually made it to Dubrovnik, but we are planning another visit next year!
|||
Dubrovnik is truly romantic and if you combine it with Vis or (and) Brac, you will have another spectacular holiday for sure!
|||
I would agree. Go to Dubrovnik. Also Brela on the Makarska Riviera is generally a little more quiet than Makarska or Tucepi although I personally love those spots.
