train and bus??

Does anyone know how long a trip it is from Venice to Rovinj by train and then bus? A ferry does not leave until late afternoon and arrives around 8pm. I would like to take a train then a bus to Istria, is this possible?

I just did this trip last week. The train from Venice to Trieste was about 2 hours (some trains are longer if they go through Udine). The bus station is across the street from the train station. however, there was only ONE bus a day to Rovinj. It was at 4:15pm in the afternoon. It took about 2 hours to get to Rovinj. So the earliest you could get to Rovinj no matter when you leave Venice is 6:20pm.

I flew in from the US and stayed in Venice for 2 nights then I spent one night in Trieste and did sightseeing a little there. And then I went on to Rovinj.

You can check the train schedules on the Austrian train website (it seems to be easiest to read). The train ticket machines in Venice offer an English option which was handy). The bus schedule online was accurate as it listed only 1 bus a day. There may be more buses during the summer if that is when you are coming.
