Help with Croatia 5 night plnning pls!

My husband and I are planning a big trip and we have 5 nights in Croatia in Aug 09. We%26#39;ve never been before. We%26#39;re 30.

We%26#39;ll be flying in From Athens and are hoping to get the ferry from Porec or Pula to Venice.

We were thinking of seeing:

Dubrovnic

Split

Plitvice Lakes

Pula/Rovinj

But I%26#39;m unsure about transport ad distances. We want to balance seeing as much as possible with spending too much time travelling.

Any suugestions about where to go and how would be much appreciated!

Not sure about the travel arrangements from Athens to Croatia, so look into that first. With only five nights you are going to have trouble fitting in Dubrovnik and the other places. Not that you couldn%26#39;t do it, but you will be traveling quite a bit between the places you want to go to. I guess you could spend a couple nights in Dubrovnik, one in Split, go to Plitvice on your way from Split to Rovinj and then spend the balance of your time in Rovinj and or Porec.

Thank you - yes that%26#39;s what I was thinking - it might be trying to do too much. Maybe we%26#39;d be better off staying north in Istria and just relaxing in one spot. Keen to catch the ferry over to Venice from Porec/Pula, so perhaps we should just stick to one area...

We did the trip from Porec to Venice last week. It is a full day, the boat leaves from Porec at 08:00, and returns at 20:00. It is a 3 hour crossing each way, which leaves you just over 5 hours in Venice.

Although we have been to Venice before, this was the first time that we have approaches it from the sea; and it added a whole new perspective to visiting Venice.

Although it is possible to see the basics in both Pula and Rovinj in half a day each, I would allow a day in Rovinj; it is so interesting.

I agree with basing in Rovinj if you are spending your time in Istria. It is lovely! There is so much to do and see in Istria including gorgeous little hilltowns of Bale, Hum, Groznjan, Draguc, etc. August is a very busy time of the year there but in Istria you can get away from the crowds, especially if you rent a car (which I highly recommend for that area). You can go down to Plitvice, too. I would suggest Pula as about half a day in a 5-day-trip (or save it for your next trip).

Istria is my favourite part of the country; in fact, my husband and I are planning to move there from Canada.

You can do Dubrovnik and such on your next trip! :)

you cannot fit all the locations in 5 days. But you have a few options: 1. Pula, Rovinj, Poreč, Opatija near Rijeka, Rijeka, and then take a one day trip to Plitvice from Rijeka. You can get a rental to drive around Istria but be aware that in August all the roads are pretty much jammed because a lot of Italian tourists come to Istria especially in August.

2. Dubrovnik, Split, Šibenik and Krka national park from Sibenik. OR Split, Šibenik, Zadar and the national park of kornati from Zadar. Southern Adriatic has more beautiful beaches and kornati is absolutely gorgeus, Istria has very good food and wine. I%26#39;d prefer the south, but everything is really nice.

if you fly to Zagreb from Athens there%26#39;s a direct flight that goes every day from Zagreb to Dubrovnik and back, and from Zagreb to Pula it%26#39;s about 4 hours by bus so you can fit everything if you organize it well.

i agree with jeja in that you should not try to see four places and Travel time in the space of 5 days.

Why not just pick two places - that way you can spend more time in each of the two places and get a feel for it.

I would say spend a couple of days in Dubrovnik and then head off for Plitvice Lakes for the remainder.

You can visit Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar and Plitvice in 5 days. I suggest at least two days for Dubrovnik.

|||

You can visit them all but you will spend all your time travelling. I would base it on where you arrive in Croatia - if you arrive in Dubrovnik base it there and up to Split. If you fly into Zagreb to to the Istrian coast.
